Dr. Tracy McFarland is married with two children, ages 17 and 19. Dr. McFarland and family are actually owned by two Burmese cats named "Margo" and "Matthew," a Tonkinese named "Jake", a Maine Coon Mix named "Annie," and a black Labrador Retriever named "Shiloh" (yes, that last one is a dog).
Dr. McFarland and her family live in a Santa Clarita Valley suburb in Northern Los Angeles County.
Dr. McFarland was born and raised with her two sisters in the bedroom community of Woodland Hills, California.
From the time she was 12, Dr. McFarland knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. Although as a teenager she raised and showed Great Danes, her heart is in feline medicine.
Dr. McFarland graduated from the University of California at Davis, near Sacramento, in 1984.
Dr. McFarland also did her undergraduate work at U. C. Davis, majoring in Animal Physiology. Dr. McFarland was the recipient of several awards and scholarships throughout her university career, While at Davis, Dr. McFarland founded the Feline Medicine Club which sponsors yearly continuing education symposia for veterinarians and verterinary students. She is a fellow of the American Association of Feline Practioners and became a certified veterinary acupuncturist in 2004. She continues to be active in various national feline organizations, speaks at local functions and participates frequently in civic activities.
After gathering experience following U.C. Davis, Dr. McFarland opened The Cat Doctor, Inc. in 1994. Her love of cats has grown from a small 800 square foot practice to a modern 3,200 square foot facility. Now Dr. McFarland is busy remodeling our new 4200 square foot facility, slated to open this winter.Dr. McFarland’s approach and ambition is simple. To practice feline medicine making no shortcuts and always act in the best interest of her patients.
One hard and fast rule is that, although we love dogs, they are not allowed anywhere in the clinic. By not permitting dogs in the clinic we provide an atmosphere of quiet calm.
Dr. Julie Musella is a highly regarded veterinarian known for her love of animals and warm and friendly personality. She is very excited to join The Cat Doctor and be part of a feline practice. In addition, she is pleased to bring exotic animal/pocket pet services to the hospital as well.
A native of Seattle, Washington, Dr. Julie has always been passionate about animals. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, she was involved in activities such as raising show horses, judging equestrian competitions and the state’s search and rescue team.
As a student at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she was heavily involved in the student chapter of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (including organizing the Annual Household Cat Show), zoo and exotic animal organizations, wildlife/raptor rehabilitation and as a chairperson for the national veterinary student symposium that was held at WSU’s new, state-of-the-art veterinary teaching hospital. While in school, she received numerous awards and scholarships.
Upon graduation with her doctorate, Dr. Julie moved to Southern California to accept a prestigious internship at the nation’s third largest small animal referral hospital. Following her internship, Dr. Musella worked for over two years as an associate at a Long Beach small animal hospital.
Personally, her animal family currently includes two domestic shorthair cats, "Elliott "and "Milton" (both blood donors who also perform tricks); a California desert tortoise, "Isabella"; a one-legged African Grey parrot named "Spike", and a yellow Labrador Retriever named "Libby".
She and her husband John, recently purchased a house in the Santa Clarita Valley. Dr. Musella is building an excellent reputation for her work with companion exotics, and was recently named a fellow of the American Association of Feline Practioners.
